Architectural and urban integration of the GLT line into the Caen conurbation.
Inserting a exclusive-lane tramway line over a distance of more than 14 km constitutes a tool for building an urban project for the city. It is the founding act that concretises the metropolitan scale of the conurbation. Beyond the mode of transportation itself is an urban project which comprises several facets: That of the public space, recomposed all along the line around the new use areas constituted by the stations. That of the beautification of the major sites that have been profoundly transformed, such as the railway station forecourt and the area around the cathedral. And then projects involving profound transformation of the peripheral districts such as La Guérinière and the town of Hérouville-Saint-Clair. The urban projects correspond to different approaches and time frames and will accompany the dynamic set in motion by the tramway project as time goes on.
