Zenata is articulated around a “green axis” crossing the city over a length of 3.5 km. As an alternative to the traditional “star” plan, a territorial network establishes an initial urban framework within which a local networking made up of “garden streets” hierarchises the different means of mobility. Added to this is an additional plan that is intimately linked to the geography of the site. The “aeraulic network” enriches the urban fabric with a design based on a study of the prevailing winds at the site, which are regular in the summer “with direction stabilised in the north-south direction”. The challenge associated with this green network consists in reducing the temperature in the public spaces by 3 degrees – a hypothesis that was tested on a demonstration block. From the green city to the “walkable city”: combined with a grid of public facilities, a plan made up of autonomous pedestrian tracks 13 km long links the different key points in the town.
